The New Park Street Pulpit, 3 Volumes By Charles Spurgeon / Baker A dynamic collection of classic sermons from the Prince of Preachers! Written in 1854 just five years after his conversion, these memorable messages reflect Spurgeon's considerable gifts: word pictures, pointed applications, concern for people, and a heart for God. Preachers will value these early messages as excellent models, and laypeople will enjoy them as devotional reading. Three hardcovers. |
While conducting a short counsel time with our church children ages three to twelve during the holiday season, I used the Bible text about the three Wise Men found in Matthew chapter two. After delivering my little talk, I questions the children that were there on some of the facts and truths found in the Bible. All went well until the end when I decided I’d have a little fun with older children and asked the question, “How many Wise Men came to see Jesus?” Of course the first answers were three. When I went to explain that the Bible really doesn’t the exact number but only that they brought three gifts, this was too much of one four year old boy on the front row.
“No. My Granny told me there were three. See it says so right here,” and be opened his Bible and began pretending to read the account as told to him by granny from the Bible. Of course counsel time was wreak from laughter as this four-year-old that couldn’t read was determined to straighten me out on the number of Wise Men. We continue to laugh about the event even today.
Surprisingly many people are just like our four-year-old student. They have preconceived ideas on what the Bible says and are determined to make say what they want it to say. (Source: Pastor Jim, Net 153)
