1 John 5:1-6 (Stress upon “and his commandments are not grievous)

Title: Keys to a Victorious Life.

Introduction

I.                  Faith v. 4, 5 & v. 1

A.    In the Person of Jesus Christ

Our faith is not in a philosophy, nor is it in some mysterious force, nor is it some vague hope. Our faith is the person of Jesus Christ – The Son of God!

B.    In the Promise of Jesus Christ

The Hebrew writer says:

Hebrews 12:1-2

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

C.    In the Power of Jesus

Power of the Blood (delivered from guilt of sin and penalty and Hold of Sin)

II.               Love v.2 – 3

A.    Love for Jesus

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

B.    Love of Others (i.e. Our love of others motivates us to press on)

Philippians 1:23-24

23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: 24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

C.    Love for Others

1 Corinthians 10:23-24

23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. 24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.

Romans 14:12

12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

III.           Spirit v.6 (because the Spirit is truth)

Jesus said John 8:32

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

The Spirit is agent by which all of this is made real. He is the Witness within that makes real the applied blood. He is the earnest payment for every promise God has given. It is impossible to have victory without him.

It is the Spirit that will make this real within you hearts today. It is the Spirit that will cause you hang in there and fight the fight against sin. It is the Spirit that we call upon to touch your heart today.
