Pray
We look upon prayer simply
as a means of getting things for ourselves, but the Biblical purpose of prayer
is that we may get to know God Himself. (Oswald Chambers)

"There is a general kind of praying which fails for lack of precision. It is as if a regiment of soldiers should all fire off their guns anywhere. Possibly somebody would be killed, but the majority of the enemy would be missed." -- C.H. Spurgeon --

by BBFI Missionary to Zaire/Zambia Patrick Coleman written by an unknown Confederate soldier. It is, to the best of my knowledge, untitled.
I asked God for strength, that I might achieve:
I was made weak that I might obey.
I asked for health that I might do greater things:
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy:
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men:
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life:
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I received nothing that I asked for, but all I had hoped for.
My prayer was answered, I am most richly blessed.
Dear God,
So far today I've done all right.
I haven't gossiped.
I haven't lost my temper.
I haven't been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or overindulgent.
I'm very thankful for that.
But in a few minutes, God, I'm going to get out of bed;
And from then on I'm probably going to need a lot more help.
Amen.
