Today's Thought

Suppose you see a lake, and there are twenty or thirty streams running from it: why, there won't be one strong river in the whole area; there will be a number of little brooks which will be dried up in the summer, and will be temporary torrents in the winter. Every one of them will be useless for any great purpose, because there is not enough water in the lake to feed more than one great stream.

Now a man's heart has only enough life in it to pursue on object fully.

You must not give half of your love to Christ, and the other half to the world. No man can serve God and money, because there is not enough in the heart to serve the two. -- Charles Haddon Spurgeon

One Liners

The prayers a man lives on his feet are just as important as those he says on his knees.

To avoid the risk of losing their religion, a lot of people don't take it to work with them.

The Christian life is like an airplane -- when you stop you drop.

Humor

(Please forgive the editor, he just cannot pass up these true stories)

Oklahoma City: Dennis Newton was on trial for the armed robbery of a convenience store in a district court when he fired his lawyer.

Assistant District Attorney Larry Jones said Newton, 47, was doing a fair job of defending himself until the store manager testified that Newton was the robber. Newton jumped up, accused the woman of lying and then said, "I should of blown your (expletive) head off." The defendant paused, then quickly added, "if I'd been the one that was there."

The jury took 20 minutes to convict Newton and recommended a 30 year sentence.

Pastor Jim Sounds OFF

This week ended the trail of President Clinton by Senate and history was made. No matter how you feel concerning the verdict or the whole mess, we as a nation have suffered. There never is a winner when it comes to sin and sin is always costly. However, it would be wise for the family of God to remember that we do not trust in government, nor in worldly justice, but we trust in the one true God who cannot lie and who always does right. The Clinton affair -- all of it -- just reminds me how thankful I am that my citizenship is in heaven and by King is holy. Pastor JIM
